We make a great gift She’s also having twins, says auntie…double yay! Literally.

I would drop everything any given day of the week to shoot twins…of any age really, but newborns are such a treat. If you follow us at all, you know twins are near and dear to my heart <3 And these two, well, I just could have kept them both! Grayson is the boy, and we was out like a light when he arrived and stayed so for such a good chunk of time. He is VERY curly and a little frog legged! Sister Taylor is a bit bigger than her brother, and was wide awake and checking me out. Awake or asleep they were both happy as clams, even when we ‘negotiated’ them into the pea pod (which is made for one by the way, but rather stretchy thankfully!)

Mom and Dad were SUCH easy going parents, which can be surprising for first time parents, but also for parents of twinkies. Even when the pregancy is uneventful, multiples are still considered high risk and caring for two babies at once can mean a lot of stress. These two were fabulous, even after being peed on {both!} It was so great to spend time with such a wonderful family!

Mom and Dad brought grandma’s christening gown, aged over 100 years and beautiful from top to bottom. Babies in the family have worn it for years. It was slightly big on the twins, but oh, what a priceless piece of family history and I’m honoured to be a part of it.

It’s ridiculous. Spending that kind of money on a garment you’ll wear for less than 12 hours. A wedding should be about the couple and their love for each other. It’s not all about the dress!

It’s ridiculous. Spending that kind of money on a garment you’ll wear for less than 12 hours. A wedding should be about the couple and their love for each other. It’s not all about the dress!

Except it is. But not in the way you think. It’s about how you feel in the dress. It’s about how it makes you feel young and vibrant and beautiful, like nothing else can. Just like your marriage. You’re marrying someone that makes you feel good when you’re with them. So good you want to spend all your days building a life with that person who makes you feel fabulous. And the dress is an extension of that feeling. So yeah, it kind of is all about the dress ;D

I am one of those people who would wear my wedding dress to work, shopping and the park if it were socially acceptable. Because yes, I feel totally fabulous in that dress. So it was no surprise to hubby when I wanted a trash the dress shoot. He put me off, saying our 10th anniversary year would be the best time to do it. How can you argue with that? He ended up planning a surprise trip to Hawaii, that he sprang on me in April. We didn’t go until July, but we rolled up that dress into a carryon {along with six days of clothes I might add} and planned a Trash the Dress session on Maui on the road to Hana.  He ended up surprising me with a vow renewal the day before we trashed, which was also amazing, but that’s a whole other blog post

So the road to Hana is this fabulous {and precarious} drive along the north east-ish coast of Maui. It is completely gorgeous and more than a bit nerve-wracking at times. Your average speed is about 15 mph and there are over 600 turns in about 45 miles. Trust me, you don’t want to be reading on this journey, and not just because the scenery is the whole point. There are many little places to stop and do trails or look at waterfalls and other interesting things along the way, and if you go past the town of Hana, there are the Seven Sacred Pools {of which there are more than seven and none sacred…hello marketing tool}. And further past that is Charles Lindburgh’s grave. All of which we saw, and yes, it was awesome!

We decided to stop at Nahiku, a beautiful forest area and town, the Seven Sacred Pools, and a black volcanic beach for our shots. The entire drive there and back took us most of the day, and yup, I wore the dress right up until the part where it was too wet to wear anymore That’s when I had to stand in line at the bathroom in the park and listen to women tell me how gorgeous my dress was and certainly I was going to take it home and clean it up? I’m sure a dry cleaner could get it clean! Oh, but it’s such a gorgeous dress, maybe you should donate it! Yes, and I loved it too, but after 10 years of marriage, I had used up all the occasions I could to wear the thing (wedding and second reception  then 10 years later vow renewal and TTD…pretty good for a dress I paid $300 consignment for). I certainly had my fair share, and I was ready to let it go.

It was still hard though. In the end, hubby had to do it, and no we didn’t actually completely destroy the dress. It will stay in Maui, a rather fitting end to our first 10 years together. And it’s okay…I got to take my husband home with me. And that’s really what it’s all about.
