Well, if you’ve read my bio on the website, you know that I am an occasional teacher with the public school board here. Last year I taught part time and photographed part time and enjoyed every minute of it. This year I secured a full time teaching assignment until June, and so I will be putting Robin’s Nest on hiatus until summer 2012.
Family is #1 for me and working full time out of the home leaves me no time to photograph professionally. I will not be taking any new clients until next summer. I will be honouring sessions for clients already enrolled in the Watch Me Grow program, and we’ll be doing Christmas minis at the end of the month.
Thanks so much to all my valued clients for your support…you’ve made the last year one of the best ever! I look forward to seeing you and your little ones next summer!

The S family joined me for an evening session last week, back before the fall chill fell on us. Since it was so warm, the bugs were insane, but such troopers they were and stuck it out. Three fabulous kids and an energetic lab round out this outdoor loving family. Thanks for a great session!

I promised them they could throw leaves…game on!

This sweet little girl is lucky to have two big brothers watching out for her!

Yay for Watch Me Grow babies! Some babies change so much from their newborn selves and others you can still recognize as they grow. Miss Brooke has changed a little, but I still see that tiny newborn girl in her face. But, oh, those big brown eyes are definitely different! I’m not sure I even got to see her awake during her newborn shoot…she slept like an angel for me. She looks a lot like her daddy, but she definitely has momma’s eyes if you ask me. At six months, Brooke is definitely a smiley baby and seems so happy to sit and play…and be doted on of course! Ah, the joys of being the first born

There is just something about this one that squeezes my heart…

Miss Charlie (short for Charlize, of course!) is one of my Watch Me Grow babies….and I can’t believe how much she has changed! She’s quite tall, and not much baby chub on this little munchkin. Charlie is an introspective little soul; she always looks like she’s trying to figure things out. That’s one of the great things about babies at this age: they’re learning to control their bodies and they are so curious and happy. They’re also totally into mom and dad! The bad thing is it can be prime teething time :( Charlie was a little trooper though, and rocked even a winter bear coat with the greatest of ease. Can’t wait to see you for the cake smash, Charlie!
This one makes me smile!

I love love love when daddies watch sports with their little girls!

Months and months ago an auntie contacted me about a gift certificate for her niece…Yay! We make a great gift She’s also having twins, says auntie…double yay! Literally.
I would drop everything any given day of the week to shoot twins…of any age really, but newborns are such a treat. If you follow us at all, you know twins are near and dear to my heart <3 And these two, well, I just could have kept them both! Grayson is the boy, and we was out like a light when he arrived and stayed so for such a good chunk of time. He is VERY curly and a little frog legged! Sister Taylor is a bit bigger than her brother, and was wide awake and checking me out. Awake or asleep they were both happy as clams, even when we ‘negotiated’ them into the pea pod (which is made for one by the way, but rather stretchy thankfully!)
Mom and Dad were SUCH easy going parents, which can be surprising for first time parents, but also for parents of twinkies. Even when the pregancy is uneventful, multiples are still considered high risk and caring for two babies at once can mean a lot of stress. These two were fabulous, even after being peed on {both!} It was so great to spend time with such a wonderful family!

Mom and Dad brought grandma’s christening gown, aged over 100 years and beautiful from top to bottom. Babies in the family have worn it for years. It was slightly big on the twins, but oh, what a priceless piece of family history and I’m honoured to be a part of it.

This sweet little man was another wakey baby in the Nest recently. I love his sweet little lips! And his big brother Coen is just about as cute as can be! The camera just loves them both! Eli did sleep for me after a couple of snacks and some cuddly blankets. You never know which babies will like to bare it all and which will like to be snuggled up tight. I sure hope he comes back when he’s a bit older…it will be so fun to see him grow!

This blanket was a gift to the little prince

I first met Prince William back when he was just a beautiful bump. We knew he was a boy, and I was excited right then to meet him…I wasn’t getting many boys at the time so it was great news. Along with his big brother Benjamin, he graced the studio last week. Due to some tummy troubles, this little man was certainly more comfy in certain positions while asleep, but what a little dear he was even awake. Benjamin made many dishes in the play kitchen, and for a three year old did a great job with his little brother!

Dear little soul…

Okay so she had LOTS of curls, and oh how sweet she was! At four weeks old, Chloe is not your typical newborn session, but she did go to sleep for us! That is one bonus about having an inhome shoot with a babe who has passed our usual shoot time. Her momma is also a fellow teacher and I have volunteered at her school. She didn’t make the connection though until she saw my pic in the bio…small world!

This one was a group effort! So worth it….

This ring is an “You’re a wonderful wife and will make a wonderful mother, I love you” gift from Daddy to Momma…sigh.

One thing I love about in home sessions is seeing all the little personal touches that parents add to a nursery…

And so begins the era of wakey babies! And honestly, there is something just powerful about a wakey newborn shot. Their eyes seem to hold so much more soul than seems possible for someone so brand new. Baby Vanessa was a little sweetie, awake or asleep. Such a happy little peanut, content to gaze around and let me wrap her and dress her up. She did catnap for me, so I’d say we got the best of both worlds. Plus, momma did shopping in advance and came with gorgeous headbands I was so happy to use!

It’s ridiculous. Spending that kind of money on a garment you’ll wear for less than 12 hours. A wedding should be about the couple and their love for each other. It’s not all about the dress!
Except it is. But not in the way you think. It’s about how you feel in the dress. It’s about how it makes you feel young and vibrant and beautiful, like nothing else can. Just like your marriage. You’re marrying someone that makes you feel good when you’re with them. So good you want to spend all your days building a life with that person who makes you feel fabulous. And the dress is an extension of that feeling. So yeah, it kind of is all about the dress ;D
I am one of those people who would wear my wedding dress to work, shopping and the park if it were socially acceptable. Because yes, I feel totally fabulous in that dress. So it was no surprise to hubby when I wanted a trash the dress shoot. He put me off, saying our 10th anniversary year would be the best time to do it. How can you argue with that? He ended up planning a surprise trip to Hawaii, that he sprang on me in April. We didn’t go until July, but we rolled up that dress into a carryon {along with six days of clothes I might add} and planned a Trash the Dress session on Maui on the road to Hana. He ended up surprising me with a vow renewal the day before we trashed, which was also amazing, but that’s a whole other blog post

So the road to Hana is this fabulous {and precarious} drive along the north east-ish coast of Maui. It is completely gorgeous and more than a bit nerve-wracking at times. Your average speed is about 15 mph and there are over 600 turns in about 45 miles. Trust me, you don’t want to be reading on this journey, and not just because the scenery is the whole point. There are many little places to stop and do trails or look at waterfalls and other interesting things along the way, and if you go past the town of Hana, there are the Seven Sacred Pools {of which there are more than seven and none sacred…hello marketing tool}. And further past that is Charles Lindburgh’s grave. All of which we saw, and yes, it was awesome!

We decided to stop at Nahiku, a beautiful forest area and town, the Seven Sacred Pools, and a black volcanic beach for our shots. The entire drive there and back took us most of the day, and yup, I wore the dress right up until the part where it was too wet to wear anymore That’s when I had to stand in line at the bathroom in the park and listen to women tell me how gorgeous my dress was and certainly I was going to take it home and clean it up? I’m sure a dry cleaner could get it clean! Oh, but it’s such a gorgeous dress, maybe you should donate it! Yes, and I loved it too, but after 10 years of marriage, I had used up all the occasions I could to wear the thing (wedding and second reception then 10 years later vow renewal and TTD…pretty good for a dress I paid $300 consignment for). I certainly had my fair share, and I was ready to let it go.

It was still hard though. In the end, hubby had to do it, and no we didn’t actually completely destroy the dress. It will stay in Maui, a rather fitting end to our first 10 years together. And it’s okay…I got to take my husband home with me. And that’s really what it’s all about.
So where are the pics!?! There are lots, so we put them in a slideshow. You’ve been so patient waiting for them, we wanted to share a bunch :D
